Hey, Soren!

September 26, 2025 By admin

How’s it going? I’m back in England now — had a short layover in Munich from Spain, but didn’t get to get any kitsch for Mom (too short of a layover). I slept twelve hours when I got back. Finally, some time to sleep in. I suppose I can declassify Spain now: we were in a town called Jerez de la Frontera, which is a little north of Gibraltar. We were working in a crypt beneath the church of San Miguel on bodies between 300 and 400 years old. Here are some pictures!

That gold thing is like two stories tall. Spanish Catholics know how to decorate.
The outside of San Miguel, feat. the head of our instructor. He was very nice.
Cádiz, a nearby town. We went on Sunday to go to the beach. Talked to some very friendly Australians on a cruise here. Here I learned that Spain has nougat-flavored ice cream and that I shall miss it all my life.
Inside the crypt. I’m the one holding the brush. We did this many times: cleaning tombs of dust/dirt (“thou art dust” was quite literal: it was remains) and recording what was inside/dimensions/etc. Turns out we in archaeology really do use paintbrushes! I don’t have many photos without human remains or identifiable field-mates.
Lots of windmills. It felt very very Don Quixote.
Cats!!!!

Speaking of cats, there’s a new cat on campus here.

I couldn’t get at her name tag but she was very friendly! I miss my babies…

Since I’ve been back I’ve been mostly doing school-things like grocery shopping and laundry. And sleeping and panicking about what happens after college. Mom told me to stop thinking about it since it was rattling my nerves too hard. We’ll see what happens. I wanna take another gap year anyway. I hope you’re settling into college easy — all I did was cry first semester, but it gets easier. Probably faster for you if you’re at UofO. It’s just across town.

I must go now — I rolled over on my glasses and now they don’t fit right and I have to ask the glasses place to fix them. I miss contacts so dearly (they’re too painful to wear. Curse my life). Also I’ve been watching a show with my roommate/friend called Poirot which is very good. Recommend. I love you so much. I thought to say “I wish you were here”, but rather I wish I was home.

With love,

Alice

Letters from Sister

It’s almost September now. Are you feeling nervous? If it’s any consolation, I’m nervous about returning to my grocery store job. Standing up all day hurt my hip, and I’m too young to complain about a hip problem. That said, I’ve taken to wearing a corset, and it’s done wonders for my back and somehow…

Happy almost-weekend. Things are quieter here now. I spent as much time in the free-VIP-stuff stores as possible. We’re seeing a production of Rent tonight. How are you doing? This week’s mostly been work honestly, and re-listening to the first two Locked Tomb books (very good). I’m volunteering at the museum now and went on…

Back on the iPad. Turns out the VPN was being annoying again and I had to turn it off. Happy Friday once again. This week was busy: lots of work. Vashon Film Festival o the sperm documentary, and the director came over with some friends. I hate him. He’s annoying and made fun of how…

Ipad has randomly decided that the internet does not work anymore and I’m too lazy to fix that right now. Ergo, I’m on the computer today. A whole different dimension. It’s only down in the living room with me today because I wanna play Deltarune. How are you doing? As the Vashon Film Festival and…
