It’s my last day in Athens. I’m sitting at a cafe right now waiting for an Uber to the airport. I’ll tell you all about it next week — to make my life easier — but it’s been very nice. Caveat that I may have fleas and cat scratch fever for, reasons. How are you doing? How’s it going?
The weather’s much nicer here than it was when we visited in September 2022. 60s and 70s. It smells like cigarette smoke, and we’re surrounded by overpriced restaurants and tourist shops. We visited Piraeus (Athens’ port) yesterday, and it was much quieter and more regularly Greek. I’ve eaten basically only spinach-feta pies for the past several days. I wandered around a few days ago and found a nice, quiet print shop and got two drawings from the 19th and 17th centuries. Next time you go on vacation, a good rule of thumb is to research where actual good-quality stores are so you don’t only find tourist kitsch and overpriced restaurants (it’s usually outside of the city-center). That said I did get tourist kitsch. I can’t always resist.
The Greeks are a very friendly people. I enjoy talking to them. The Uber is starting to come now — I must leave now. I love you so much. If this won’t send now I’ll try in the airport.
With love,
Alice
