Hey, Soren!

November 14, 2025 By admin

Back and standing and awake. Anyway I had an insane thing happen that I won’t get into here happen so I am off the mental rails today. How are you? So glad December’s only a few weeks away. It means I can go home soon. Here are some photos from Athens:

Acropolis from the Aeropagus (big rock), first night. I was so tired. Wandering alone.
Parthenon from the back. It was cloudy and very nice up there!
Arch of Hadrian, Roman emperor. A few classmates and I got stuck hanging out here with a drunk yet completely harmless Australian tourist who’d injured himself. Godspeed, Damien.
World’s most insane place where I had dinner one night (strawberry tart). It felt like Disneyland after hours on Halloween night.

Piraeus, the port of Athens. Those stones are from the 5th-century Persian Wars when they were trying to keep the invading Persians out on all sides. The wall’s namesake politician defected, though, lol.

Cat colony whose caretaker we met and talked to. There were about seventy cats living there!!!
Me with one of said cats. Poor baby almost died of flea-anemia. Afterwards I put this outfit in a plastic bag and washed it. Flee-free!

And that’s Athens condensed down into a few images. Most of everything else was visiting sites and listening to the professor, and going tourist shopping. I befriended a shopkeeper one night which was nice. And I ate so many cheese pies. Being back in England felt like the culinary equivalent of getting knocked down heaven’s steps. I also bothered perhaps every stray cat in central Athens. And walked so much. My calves have suffered.

This week has mostly been recovery. I only got three hours of sleep last night, though, for anxiety reasons. And I got a cold. Which was no fun. But now I need to keep working again. I love you so much. Sometimes in tired, bad moments I wonder where you are like I’ve woken up in a hospital bed.

With love,

Alice

Letters from Sister

How’s it going this week? I’ve started work again at camp, so I’m decently tired. It’s going good though: got a free ice cream sandwich today. On Saturday last I tried to make one myself because I was thinking about them: the cookies were too thick, but it was fun anyway. Today I finished my…

We went to a firework show, despite my best wishes. Loud. But funny — some guy was yelling “Yeah! America! 250 years of freedom! No other country in the world has done it!” lmao. Did you enjoy the day or do anything fun? I remember huddling with you under a big blanket on Skinner’s Butte…

Well isn’t this a fun number, 250. Happy designated Birthday That Makes All Your British Friends Think Your Land Has No History Pre-1700! The amount of times I have held back from calling people racist and instead started gently explaining Native Americans and their building projects to them. It’s too goddamn many Soren. Anyway, I…

I am back now. Thank God. I got sick the day before the flight so I’ve been languishing in my mucus all week. And playing the new Deltarune chapter. It’s exactly what I need. Here’s the recap on the vacation. After we left England we stopped in the first of three hotels. Walked around. Saw…
