Hey, Soren!

May 8, 2026 By admin

I’m back. The website was broken again, and I couldn’t get to you at all. The app’s still screwed up, so I’m writing on the website. I edited my Pinterest bio to tell you — maybe if this happens again, I’ll make posts updating you on there or on the Flickr. I’m sorry if you were in the dark. Mom says malware is like a moth infestation, so it could come back at some point.

To update you: we got back to Washington fine. I saw Project Hail Mary with a friend (fun, but not genius. I think Iron Lung’s better). He works at the theater so he gets free tickets, and he’s seen the good movies like 10+ times. Lucky duck. Mom, Aaron, and I saw Rick Steves give a talk in Seattle, which was fun and a little uncanny (since I have only seen him on screen). It was at a church and the priest talked afterwards. That was fun since I’ve never been to a sermon before. Although it was not for me. No, I do not know why they were fanning Jesus with palms and what they call the day they did that. The next week we went to Jesus Christ Superstar (fittingly). It’s one of Aaron’s favorites. The actors’ mics were weird so I couldn’t understand what was happening well, but it was fun anyway. Jesus looked very Portland hipster. Mom has very begrudgingly joined Aaron’s old person brass band as a mellophone player. She hates it so much. They don’t play coordinated-ly enough. I keep telling her, you don’t have to be in band, but she keeps going. I went to one of their things and she was mentally struggling. I also went over to the park to look for more five-leafed clovers like last year but couldn’t find any — I tried to send one to my best friend (Dutch. Far away), but it split into four leaves before I got to the post office. Most wretchedly.

I got back to England on Monday. My only test of the year was on Wednesday at 9:30 AM. They don’t tell you when the tests happen until long after it’s reasonable to buy a plane ticket (despite my complaining). This went about as you expected: try as I might, I got 1 1/2 hours of sleep from about 7-8:30ish AM. Sleep music videos don’t work. I think I did alright, all things considered. And if I did badly, I blame the school. I did nothing but study after getting back from Phoenix!!! It’s not fair!!! Anyway in March (when I expressed my prophetic concerns in class) some girl told me to eat blueberries for jet lag and I want to kill her lol. The cruel naivety. I submitted my undergrad dissertation yesterday. I made the professor read it in chunks so I know that should go alright. Knock on wood. This should be about your first finals season. I hope it’s going smoothly. Just remember to sleep and take care of yourself. It’s not the end of the world. And don’t forget your flash cards on another continent like I did lol. I have a few more assignments to finish before the year is wrapped up. They grade degrees here (batshit) and I’m aiming for the “A”, but at this point I’m getting pretty tired. I might get it, but if not it’ll definitely be the “B” (B for Beleaguered). Then I’m going to sleep for 15 hours. Then I’m thinking of going to the coffee shops to draw like I would to study because my creative spark is dwindling like a fire on a cold winter’s night. Again, remember to rest, Soren. We have it harder than usual.

I’m sorry for leaving you hanging these past two weeks, if you are here at all. I’m always thinking of you. Even if I can’t give you the weekly nonsense.

With love,

Alice

Letters from Sister

Happy June! The heatwave here has finally passed, thank god. Now it’s in the 60s and rainy again as England should be. On the last day of “good” (bad) weather, a friend and I went to Richmond and did some shopping. We got matching rings at a new-age jewelry store: I got one “gold” (flaking…

May’s almost over now. That means school’s probably almost done for you. Congratulations! One year of college! The hard transitional part is over. It’s pretty smooth sailing from here as long as you keep on top of assignments. I like to camp out in the library about that. And drink coffee, but you got to…

How are you doing this week? I’m quite tired. But I always am. I went to a special little place next to Cambridge to do some dry cleaning for the vintage coat I want to wear to Phantom of the Opera in June (cat got into closet. Scratched up special anti-moth plastic bag. Peed on…

How’s it going? I’m still not used to the website. It’s very weird here. Buttons I am scared to press. This week had only one notable event: I finished my last assignment. Now it’s time for the waiting game. My grades are good enough that I’m guaranteed to graduate, so I’m not worried about that….
